The way we build today cannot meet the demands of tomorrow.
Across Europe, construction projects are becoming harder to deliver. Costs fluctuate, timelines slip, skilled labour becomes scarce, and climate requirements grow stricter every year. At the same time, buildings are expected to be smarter, greener and more efficient. Yet most technical systems are still designed late, assembled manually and coordinated across many subcontractors on crowded and moisture-prone sites. Even highly skilled installers cannot compensate for a process that is chaotic by design.
The problem is not the technology. It is the way we use it.
Installations drive most of a building’s energy performance, long term operating cost and insurance exposure.
This also applies directly to electrical installations. When electrics are designed late and assembled manually on site, the same pattern emerges as with other systems. Rework, coordination clashes, inconsistent execution and higher risk during construction. The lack of standardised interfaces and clear connection points makes electrical work a recurring source of delays, cost variation and uncertainty.
But because installations arrive too late in the process, the results are predictable. Delays. Cost overruns. Dropped ceilings. High and unstable energy bills. Labour bottlenecks. Variation between apartments. And a structural lack of predictability across projects.
Ekonod is designed to break that pattern.
Traditional projects suffer from trades colliding in the same shafts, plant rooms and corridors. Work overlaps. People wait. Work is redone. Disputes are common. Even prefab bathrooms only shift this slightly because the system remains centralised.
Ekonod changes the topology.
Electrical connections follow the same logic. By integrating electrics into the installation hub using plug and play principles, on site connection becomes a controlled and repeatable step rather than a task defined by troubleshooting, adaptation and improvisation.
Each apartment receives a factory assembled hub that carries water, heating, ventilation and controls. Installation happens apartment by apartment in a quiet, repeatable rhythm. Commissioning becomes connection and verification, not detective work. Investigations and balancing issues are significantly reduced.
In a traditional project, cost only becomes real when drawings are almost finished or construction has already begun. Ekonod brings the critical decisions forward. The most complex parts of HVAC, plumbing and controls are consolidated in a standardised, pre priced hub. Interfaces are fixed. Energy and CO₂ performance can be modelled early. Scope creep falls. Financing becomes clearer and more stable. When electrical installations are included in the same predefined and pre priced hub, cost certainty increases further and late stage variation is significantly reduced.
Centralised systems are fragile. A fault in one riser or plant room can affect many apartments at once. Ekonod localises risk. Each home has its own hub with integrated leak detection, shutoff and monitoring. A problem in one apartment stays in that apartment. Service work is faster, simpler and far less disruptive.
Traditional central systems lock buildings into one structure type and one energy strategy. Ekonod hubs integrate into concrete, steel, CLT and hybrid structures. They work with radiators, underfloor heating, heat pumps, district heating, solar and hybrid grids. Buildings stay adaptable over time rather than frozen in today’s requirements.
Centralised circulation loses 20 to 30 percent of hot water energy every year. Ekonod eliminates these losses entirely. Each hub prepares hot water locally. With optional spillwater heat recycling, hot water energy use can fall by 50 to 75 percent. Real projects show emissions reductions from about 12.5 to 6 kilograms CO₂ equivalent per square metre and hot water energy use around 3 kilowatt hours per square metre per year.
Every hub is ready for Modbus and Matter. This enables integration with building management systems, apartment level metering, fair billing, ESG ready reporting and future AI optimisation.
Because current processes cannot deliver the predictability, climate performance or long term value that the market now demands. Ekonod replaces site built complexity with an industrial, digital and decentralised model where each apartment becomes a calm installation station and data is built in from day one.
