Industrial precision meets digital intelligence.

Technology & System Logic

Behind the simplicity of an Ekonod hub is a highly engineered system that brings factory logic, energy optimisation, and digital control into one compact unit.
It removes the complexity, variability, and risk of traditional site-built installations – and replaces them with pretested, moisture-safe, AI-ready systems that perform consistently across every apartment.

The same logic applies to electrics, where predefined interfaces and plug and play connections turn electrical work from manual site assembly into verified connection.

This is where Ekonod becomes not just a construction method, but a technology platform.

1. Factory-built precision

Traditional installation is assembled manually by multiple subcontractors in uncontrolled conditions.
Ekonod moves this complexity upstream.

Each hub is assembled in a controlled factory environment, ensuring:

  • predictable quality
  • airtight moisture protection
  • consistent tolerances
  • fewer on-site decisions
  • shorter installation time
  • dramatically reduced labour dependency

Even the most skilled installer cannot compensate for a flawed process – industrialisation is the only viable path.

2. A complete installation core – all in one module

Every Ekonod unit integrates:

  • hot and cold water
  • decentralised hot-water preparation
  • heat recycling
  • ventilation routing
  • drainage
  • electrical pre-coordination
  • plug and play electrical connections with defined interfaces
  • fire safety
  • moisture detection
  • smart metering
  • digital control interfaces

What looks like a bathroom is actually the technical heart of the apartment.

3. Moisture-safe by design

Ekonod addresses the biggest risk in Swedish construction: wet rooms.
Modules include:

  • factory-installed waterproofing layers
  • stainless-steel floor protection
  • integrated floor drains
  • underfloor moisture sensors
  • auto shut-off valves
  • controlled installation sequencing onsite

This aligns with insurance expectations and drastically reduces long-term risk.

4. Energy-efficient system logic

Ekonod eliminates whole-building inefficiencies such as long pipe runs and circulation losses.

Benefits include:

  • 50–75% hot-water energy savings through heat recycling
  • decentralised heat preparation with ~3 kWh/m²/year performance
  • lower pump energy
  • reduced system losses
  • fewer breakdowns and easier maintenance

Energy efficiency is not a feature – it’s built into the system’s architecture.

5. Digitally ready (Matter + Modbus + AI)

Ekonod provides the foundation for smart buildings:

  • Matter- and Modbus-compatible
  • tenant-level metering for heat, water, electricity & ventilation
  • AI diagnostics and predictive maintenance
  • energy-as-a-service potential
  • real-time system insights
  • unified climate and operational data

This gives owners earlier clarity on electrical loads, usage patterns and operational performance across the building.

Instead of retrofitting digital systems, Ekonod builds the digital infrastructure from day one.

6. Lightweight, compact & structurally flexible

Ekonod is up to 3× lighter than comparable installation cores and fits seamlessly into:

  • CLT / cross-laminated timber
  • hybrid timber
  • concrete
  • steel
  • modular and volumetric systems

The compact geometry enables:

• thinner walls
• smaller shafts
• increased rentable/sellable space
• easier routing and coordination
• greater architectural freedom

The structure no longer dictates the systems – the system adapts to the structure.

7. Designed for repeatable installation on-site

Once delivered, installation follows a calm, controlled sequence:

  • each apartment becomes a station
  • teams move in a linear flow
  • fewer trades compete for space
  • fewer errors occur
  • quality control becomes measurable
  • Electrical commissioning becomes faster because connections are predefined and verified through connection and testing rather than troubleshooting.

This brings manufacturing discipline to the construction site.

8. Decentralized as a basic idea but hybrid-capable when needed

Ekonod is developed for full decentralization with a hub per apartment. At the same time, the hub can be connected to existing central systems when the project requires it.

In practice, this means

  • new projects can be completely decentralized without circulation loops
  • existing buildings can be gradually upgraded but retain parts of the central substation
  • mixed projects can have common areas be central and the apartments local

The system adapts to the project’s conditions today and keeps the door open for greater efficiency in the future. Ekonod makes installations modular, intelligent and future-proof. It reduces risk, increases performance and speeds up delivery in all types of projects.
